She does sprinkle in some stuff that isn't overtly sexual however this kind of work isn't the first thing you see on her pages.
Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but the women she draws often appear to be in a sex work profession.
It's not just the way they are dressed or the practiced facial expressions they have, but also the settings where they frequently appear.
The sex work theme might not be something everyone sees.
It could just as easily be women doing this for fun.
But let me cook.
1: The woman appears to be undressing from her normal clothes and looking at herself in the mirror wearing a nightclub costume. The look on her face is quizzical.
2: A man is smiling and taking the hand of one of two women standing together. They are both looking at him like they do not know him. Another couple in the shot appear to not want to be in a photograph.
3: She is dressed up to go out. The text message on her phone doesn't match the tired expression on her face.
4: "Do you think you can take my heart if you take my body?"
But she isn't completely satisfied by this. She is thinking a lot about whether or not she is wanted.
She is thinking about how temporary everything is, yet she is losing herself to it anyway.
She wants to be in your thoughts. She will be an anamatronic fish girl to be chopped up and eaten like sushi.
She is shackled to imperfection but has found a way to maintain some level of control.
Could it be that I am vastly overthinking this?
Is there not some amount of leaning into these themes because they are marketable to men and allow her to work as a freelance artist?
Sure, but I think that only strengthens the stance that a lot of her art is commentary about doing sex work.
She has hardened herself to getting caught up in feelings. Her femininity is a weapon.
But it isn't always an easy one for her to wield.
She receives commentary like these. She has probably received commentary like mine as well.
Is the target audience men? Obviously.
But I think if she wanted to address men through her art without constantly reminding them of the female experience, she could have.
