I went through a phase of playing random games on my retroarch emulator machine and just taking screenshots of everything. There's a folder full of stuff. I'll try to upload some of it here.
Some of these are official classic games. Some of them are romhacks of classic games. And others are unlicensed roms that are floating around the Internet but were never released on cartridges.
If you're wondering why many of the screen shots look like a filter was run on them, it's because it probably was. I was often playing with filters while playing the games.
Final Fantasy 6 Brave New World; it's a mod for original that increases difficulty and makes the dialog silly. I made game guide for this hack a while back, you can find it here: https://bnw.pages.dev

> And is it just me, or are there 51 mountains within viewing distance of where I'm standing?
I laughed. Then I counted the mountains. And then I laughed again

Every time I see a screenshot of Armored Core, I remember when I got to play the game very briefly at my local Target when I was a kid. It was such a cool and futuristic experience

Filters make more sense for romhacks, imho. I would be surprised if hacks were not made with filters in mind, honestly. And even if they weren't, a lot of them mix up graphics from different places anyways, so at least the filters can help give them a sense of style and cohesion
This thread is aesthetic joy!

People have commented before that some of these sceenshots look smudged and they're not completely wrong. For a pixel art purist it's probably awful. But like you said, I play a lot of romhacks and I just got used to the effect and didn't really think about it.

Fester's Quest (a classic) and Eyra the Crow Maiden (aftermarket unlicensed game I don't remember at all)
I have a lot of this game called River City Girls Zero, because it's such a cinematic game for a SNES beat em up. I have no idea what anyone was saying but the art in the cutscenes of every level is very captivating.
Some guys break out of jail and meet up with their girlfriends and then just beat the shit out of everyone in town.
I've got a bunch of Mojovian Tales games to show. These are homebrew NES games made by these people at this link: https://www.infiniteneslives.com/mojoniantales.php

> Goemon is also based, although the best entry of this series is the N64 one.
I forgot I had some of the N64 screen shots, too
