> if not you are gay just saying
guess I'm gay then lol
What reasons do you have for wanting me to keep it up, honestly?
Would you be willing to moderate if I was going to consider it?
Basically what it comes down to is that I don't want to have the up and down where it seems like the site is starting to take off, there's a couple returning posters, and then days later it's dead again for over a week. It calls me back in and then rug pulls me. Then I realize the whole time, I could have been doing something else.
Most people who don't use imageboards check out immediately because it's not their style. People that do use imageboards see that it's not the same as imageboard software they are used to and it makes them bitch and moan. So it's just not a meritted site. We're propping up a dead body that belongs in the ground.

I don't have an exact date yet, but I'm most likely going to be shutting down the board.
Something I've told myself for a while is that it doesn't hurt to keep it up. But it's a bit of sunken cost fallacy, because there's no benefit to keeping it up either. It was a cool thing I made but even if I don't work on more features for it, I have to maintain the server it's on. I have to keep up with CVEs. I have to install updates. And every ounce of energy that goes into this board is energy that is not put into my other projects. Another layer of this problem is that even if I leave it in the background while focusing on other tasks, it's eventually going to distract me and lure me back into working on it again, since that's just how I am.
I'm not just going to shut it off over night. I want to get it into a state where I can make static copies of the entire site and then preserve the archives. Keeping at least that as a memento online is how I'm going to justify the work I put into this thing and also turn away from it.
The blog at goeshard.org will stay up so I'm not going anywhere.

literally a porn site with forums, up since 1998
the whole forum went behind a paywall last month
it used to be funny because you could go all the way back to 1999 and looking at what porn sharing culture looked like back then. it's probably not worth paying for though.

You can explore it here.

The site no longer exists but it spawned a child forum, zoklet.
That forum died, and it spawned a child, NiS. https://niggasin.space
I probably wouldn't have started with racial jokes in the title of the forum since it seems the effect is that people rarely post unless they are shitposting. But overall I like the freedom of the place and its a window into the world that used to be totse.com. I believe that's part of their identity anyway: formerly being an information resource for taboo topics, and now just being composed of shit posters that know each other from the past.
There's also this one, although I haven't looked at it much: https://newtotse.com/

This is the best example I've seen of a modernized old forum.
At some point they switched to discourse.
https://boards.straightdope.com/
I never knew about the old one but it's pretty neat that they've been around for so long and someone's been holding it together and keeping people posting in an on topic way.
Very much an effort posting forum.
You can poke around on the old one, too.

It's pretty funny to mention these forums together since they are diametrically opposed philosophically but cover similar subject matter, especially relating to nostalgia for the old Internet.
I used to post on both, although I don't log in to Melonland much anymore. It's artistically interesting and worth a visit. But the whole site is positively infested by furries. To his credit, Melon never banned me for not fitting in, but I eventually awoke to realize that there wasn't much point to staying.
Agora Road is a lot more free. You can feel in every interaction that it's more natural communication compared to Melonland, which always feels like you have eyes evaluating how positive and happy you are. And even if no one steps in and removes you, which I can respect that, you feel bad for not shooting sunshine and rainbows out of your ass everyday. You know for yourself if that is something you're into or not. If that's you, no shame in it. It was made for you.
This is why Agora is ultimately my preferred nostalgia forum, although I think Melon is a great web artist. Agora is also infested with its own undesirable elements, like post-4chan retardation, a lot of religious users is a thing (not a problem exactly but), for some reason there is always someone who wants to mention femboys; but it's easy to just ignore the people that you don't want to talk to and only participate in threads that you do. Because of the relative freedom, Agora has a reputation that doesn't really match what the site is.

My favorite forums are old, but old can have downsides. A lot of times the community will have changed a lot from the past (Something Awful) or the users will be really bitter about the fate of their communities (&totse). From a new user's perspective, old can also mean more impenetrable.
Perhaps the best forums are just the ones that are so niche and the users are so fixated that its impossible for their core idenity to be lost.
I prefer forums that don't have huge documents of rules and mission statements, but that's a personal preference.
Here is Something Awful in 2004

A reply to a thread was posted: I've uncovered Taylor Swift/Mr Beast Suicide Pact
I’m on to something big. I was going through some public posts by Taylor Swift and Mr. Beast and I am 100% certain the two of them have a murder-suicide pact. If you alternately take the first letter from each of their tweets over the past 6 months, it spells something:
“Vapid parasites reap what we sow. Death soon. 16 of you worthless peasants will die with us. Your reckoning comes. Chains, poison, razors. Our lives are meaningless. We end the misery next April. Our blood will rain on Honolulu. 81-88”
Most of this is self-explanatory but a few things need explaining. Obviously they have become woke as to what they are. “Vapid parasites with “meaningless” lives. That much is self evident but why 16 people, why April and what is “81-88”? And why Honolulu in Hawaii?
Next April will be the 81st anniversary of Hitler’s death. That’s the 81. And 88 is a common code for Heil Hitler because H is the 8th letter of the alphabet. So now we can be certain that they are white people.
And Honolulu, Hawaii? “HH” again!!! Also Honolulu has 8 letters. Another Hitler connection! It all started to come together.
It took awhile to figure out why 16 people would have to die with them. Then I remembered Columbine happened in April. 16 people died in Columbine (one was only recently related to wounds they sustained.) AND Columbine has 8 letters JUST LIKE HONOLULU (AKA HITLER).
So from what I can tell, in April 2026 Taylor Swift and Mr. Beast are going to Honolulu, Hawaii (HH) and they are going to take 16 people against their will (chains). They will poison the people and just to be certain they all die, they will slit their own throats with razors.
Also February is the Super Bowl.

That's the "codename" for this project. I've been working on it again lately. This is probably what most of my hobby coding attention is going to start being on.

it's hard to explain.
it's really weird just to see these characters again ater a long time knowing nothing about them. Some of the things they made up to make it make sense work. It's not overly political, maybe a little. It seems like they have plans to develop characters which feel like a mix of people we know and people we don't (because of the time passage).
Worth a watch. The best episodes hit pretty good.

Basically yes. They were at shopping malls in the 90s and 2000s. I think there might be some left, but it has been a long time since I've seen one. They sold bags and cups of popcorn for casual munching while you shopped

hell yeah.
straight edge was not really popular in my city. They were individuals that claimed it but there wasn't a "straight edge community" or a scene of bands.
I definitely love Minor Threat and just about anything on Dischord or Ebullition, but I'm definitely more of an emo listener than a straight edge listerner.
That being said, I can see the appeal of the straight edge lifestyle now that I'm older.
